Wolves of the Gods

By Allan Cole

Review by Dan L. Hollifield

Type of music/work: Fantasy Novel

Musicians/Performers/Author(s): Allan Cole

General impressions of the album/book:
This one is a great read! It was hard to put down when it came time to go back to reality. I highly recommend it.

Specifics:
Allan has crafted a wonderfully complex, believable tale with characters that leap off the page and into your imagination. The story is well written, the characters quickly become like old friends, and the world that they live in becomes a familar place... all before you turn very many pages.

As a newcomer to the series, I was pleased to see that the novel stands on its own- even though it comes late in the series. I had no trouble picking up on the past histories of the characters, kingdoms, and magic. I hadn't turned many pages at all before I came to care about the characters as if they were old friends. As a writer myself, I can tell you that that is not an easy trick! Allan manages to make it look easy, which is a sure sign of someone who's really good at their job.

Wolves of the Gods is filled to the brim with adventure, conflict, magic, and danger. In short, everything you need for a rousing good story! Although well stocked with references to previous works in the series, it isn't overpowered by them. Instead you get the feeling that there is a rich history to the characters- One that you'll find yourself wanting to catch up on even as you turn the next page. I for one, am going shopping for more of Allan's work!

Background info:
Allan quite often works with Chris Bunch as a co-author. In the following list of titles I have indicated the books Allan and Chirs have written together with an *.

Other books by Allan Cole are:
The Far Kingdoms*
The Warrior's Tale*
Kingdoms of the Night*
The Warrior Returns
The Sten Adventures:*

A Reconing for Kings*
A Daughter of Liberty*
Wizard of the Winds

As you can see, there are lots more of Allan's books out there to enjoy. I'll see you at the bookstore, but for safety's sake don't get between me and the bookshelves!
