Re: Aphelion story linked to at Lit Haven
I dunno about Aimee either. I get it, but her style isn't for everyone. Certainly not for me.

On the flip, I thought "The Orange" was absolutely brilliant! This almost read like good poetry (and I hate most poetry). Better yet, it read like a Zen narrative. If you've ever read a handful ...

Re: Ion drive?
Damn, once all this science goes from fiction the science fact, what the hell will SF writers have to explore?

And, yes, I know that was the subject of the story "A Case of Slow." A damned good story, too, I might add.

-Chris

Re: Story 2.0
I'm shocked at how much opposition there is to this idea. Perhaps I'm not as traditional as I sometimes like to think.

I say let's embrace the glory that comes with todays modern age and go with Story 2.0. The great thing about the Internet is that you can go into the past (read, back issues...

Re: Short Stories -- the nature of ...
Well, Rob, you certainly chose the toughest way to do it. As Cary pointed out, I tried this route, and it didn't come out the way I planned.

I think for the Majius stories you just need to more carefully consider how much and which elements of the backstory you need. Not everything will ...
My advice, Nate, is focus on sending your work to agents. I've been writing since I was 14 and in the past ten years haven't made much more than you.

Get the 2005 Novel & Short Story Writer's Market when it comes out. Re: first novels
Of course I'd advocate ebooks. There's a few reasons for that:

1. The ratio of dollars earned to sales is MUCH higher than in print (although the quanity potential ain't even close to print). Also, rate at which that money is paid out is faster.

2. Having a successful e-book is another...

Re: It's Finally Happened!
Thanks guys!

Perhaps a con isn't right around the corner, but I've always wondered who wouldn't pay for an Aphelion collection.
