I sort of agree with Kate that this piece could have been a little shorter. It might be argued that its length is part of what gives it its effect, but I don't think it would have given up anything by losing a few paragraphs.
Very strange; it's part surreal, part unreal, and part quite close and believable, and they're all interconnected. This works, though; it's quite creepy. I'd like to see what Mr. Ames can do with a more traditional story structure.
