Not too bad, although I should confess I am not a fan of the horror genre. The story pulled me in and held my interest until it turned weird at the end.

I would suggest dialing back the adjectives and making the descriptive passages as spare as possible.

Finally, the Bulwer-Lytton opening paragraph might bring smiles to some (it was a dark and stormy night...).
