Simple Things to Jumpstart Your Writing
Someone pointed towards this blog entry. It's nothing earth-shattering or new, but good, solid practical advice rarely is. Just thought I'd share.

http://www.52projects.com/52_projects/2 ... ngs_y.html

Ah, but that probably means you should try writing ABOUT your building ...

Robert M.all nice and well, but in a world increasingly noisy, obnoxious and hostile concentrating is a challenge infinitely more so than actually coming up with ideas.
try writing in my building...good luck!!!

I agree with TaoPhonix, Lee and I love Robert’s idea about Lee’s building!! Write about it! You can change the characters into space aliens or animals or ghosts, even. Or how about a farm family that encompasses all those characters!! Lee, I think that Robert is right! You have a garden outside you door---cultivate it!!

I found out that if I hate something or really love something or am amazed at something, a story always pops up!!!

52 Projects is just another re-hash of other books on writing. A little different twist here and there, but in general it is the same.

Write every day? Well, I guess if you don’t have a job or family, then you can write every day!

I have to write every day down a work! Sign off on Tow-motor check-off sheets, a small report here and there, fill out my time sheet, sign my name on Material Orders and sometimes even sent an E-mail. Does that count?

‘Read a lot and write a lot’ is the common theme I see often. I guess that it is a good one for so many experts in writing have expounded on its worth! It must be a good one. Even many authors have suggested it. And I do love to read--when I have the time!

I’ve been writing for about three years now and have read some books on the subject which, I’m sure, many others here at Aphelion have done.

How to jump start your writing? I don’t know the answer, and maybe the answer varies between writers. Like I said before, if I hate something, I can write about it. A story comes. If I’m stressed out at work, a story comes, although I usually stress out other people at work---I like to old saying ‘I give heart attacks, don’t get them.”

I wish that I could get some magical formula for jump-starting my writing, as I’m sure many others here at Aphelion want, but I’ve never found one!

I wish each writer at Aphelion would gives his/her method of jump-starting, then we all might have more ammunition in our muse!!

I think Lee's point is that his neighbors are already space aliens or animals ... and might eat or disintegrate him (or, as Zoe says about the Reavers in 'Firefly' "kill you, rape you, and eat you -- and if you're lucky, it'll be in that order") if they heard that he'd written about them. (It's probably safe to assume that they wouldn't READ what he might write about them. Or much of anything else ...)

Robert M.I agree with TaoPhonix, Lee and I love Robert’s idea about Lee’s building!! Write about it! Oh, I never thought about that!! If they are, then Lee has a built in opportunity to learn another language, and hear some 'out of this world' stories!!!
