It's not impossible to get spyware, but very unlikely. 99% of all the adware/spyware/viruses are aimed at PC, not Mac. Ever since I set Netscape to block unrequested popups, I've not seen a single one.

Prior to Mac OS X 10.3.5, we didn't have any lockups or freeze problems, either. One freeze in three months was a lot. Since then, my macs here and at work have been somewhat problematic. If you do join the Rebellion like us, stay away from Norton Systemworks. It causes more problems than it fixes--found that the hard way when it crashed my machine. (I have hopes that brand new OS 10.4 works better.)

Out of the box, Macs come with very handy software for movies, photos, music, & sound manipulation, too. Word processing is weak if you use TextEdit that comes with the machine--I bought MSWord. I use IE, but have McAfee Internet Suite 2005. It blocks everything, includes a personal firewall, and constantly updates virus and spam protection. It hooks you up with an anti-hacker site and even blocks questionable email.
Rob

From what I've been able to see, McAfee Spamkiller ( which runs constantly) will block email with questionable formatting and at least warn you about email that appears to be dangerous with a window that asks if you want to open the mail depending on its potential hazards. Spamkiller is included in the McAfee Internet Suite package, and all blocked email can be viewed in a kind of quarantine site.
Hope this helps
BTW Norton hasa similar product, but it's more expensive because you can use it on up to three home PCs. McAfee, although it comes with a CD Rom, is only good for one computer.
So. I've received one of those 'bank account' emails and would expect any more would raise red flags with the system.
Rob
