I can wait patiently.

After all, I have enough self-imposed project work to last me another 3 months. Now that I *THINK* I have most of the mundane nuisance distractions out of the way...

Is there any one else out there who'd like to fill in the missing slots?

Gareth
Would it defeat the purpose of the experiment to have one of us write one more?

If no one new wants to, I would happily write another. That was fun.

Although diminished in spread, presuming Nate and I are the two "guest writers" still provides an outside perspective that Gareth alone would not be able to generate.

I am sufficiently amnesiac that if Gareth handed me one of the other parts, if I made a point "not to work too hard to remember" I won't even remember the one I wrote last time. :-/

Tao "what is this thread again?" Phoenix
Man, Tao skipped the groove again. (Those too young to remember records will not understand.)

Months ago, GDJ said he was over 7500 words without the 2 missing. If we were all doing 1000 words, that would be at least seven writers. GLP, you, Wormtongue, Neoadorable, and myself all said publicly we were in. Also assuming that GDJ did the 500 words as a conclusion, there may have been 2 more writers who filed stories.

I'd say that qualifies as "outside perspective".

... namely Megawatts (a.k.a. Mr. Philibin) and Wishbone (a.k.a. ?). At least, I presume that Gareth (Da Jones, not Long Play) mentioned their names in this thread for that reason. Boy, a missed deadline that ISN'T MY FAULT. Kewl.

Okay Nate and Tao, you're hired; again. I'll send your secret instructions by the usual method.

I'm getting all excited again now!

There. Another one sent for Gareth's consideration, and once again, it was fun. The rest of you don't know what you missed.

I'm just doing a bit of minor tinkering so that all of the sections slot together smoothly, then I shall continue with the conclusion.  I already have an idea for another Astropolis collaboration, but that'll have to wait...

Gareth
Cool.

Will we the collaborators get to see a copy of it early, or will we have to wait until it's online?

That's a good question.  I guess it would be useful to have it proof read and checked before the rest of the world gets to read it (assumimg it's accepted by Aphelion).  Any thought from the other collaborators?  How blind would you like to be?
Much as I'm dying to see it, I think you should only show us our own parts. That way I can still enjoy seeing it new on the page when it comes out.

I can wait until it's published.  And I'm sure with Rob "I'm uninvolved so I can point and laugh" Moriyama as shorts editor we can get it into print  ;D
Hey! Are you implying that I have low standards? Or that "it's not how you write, it's who you know" (i.e., any project with Editorial Mafiosi involvement gets a free pass)? Just because I always accept MY OWN stories doesn't mean that I ... (uh oh, did I type that instead of just thinking it? :-[)

This brings up a funny point.

If we were discussing "6480 words vs 7520 words", people could jockey editors.

However, 11000 words is beyond any argument.

--Tao "My extra 800 words aren't totally to blame" Phoenix
"Jockey editors"? Sounds kinky. If I see a riding crop and spurs, I will ADD sufficient wordage to a story to foist it on Jeff.

Yeah, but 3,498 views were by Blind Collaborators wondering whether their work would ever see the light of, er, electroluminescencing phospor dots or backlit liquid crystals...

Can you forward me a copy of the bounce to doc [at] america [dot] net? I'll look and see what's going on with it.

If you send me the story as well, I'll make sure to forward it to the appropriate editor.

Well, I'm off on holiday now for two weeks. Will the story be accepted? Will it appear in the June issue?

Tune in next month...
Alas, no "The Blind Collaborators".

I was looking forward to it--especially to see how everyone's parts fit together.

Much like above, his blog says he's on some kind of trip or vacation for a few weeks. It sounded like he was trying to send it to Jeff.

It's been acepted!  Hurrah!   :)

Just to drag out the expectation though, it won't be appearing until September, just in time for the anniversary of its inception.
Yeah, but is it really September, that's the question. You might want to add a plus or minus 2 months to that.  :)

Next time, same setting, or somewhere new?

It will definitely be September. And in the calendar year 2007. The REAL question is -- which calendar? Julian? Gregorian? Raelian? (Do the Raelians have a calendar?) Mayan? ;D

Man. I'm the apprentice?

Oh, well. Everybody thinks Darth Vader is cooler than the Emperor anyway. :)

At least that explains why I can get the Imperial March stuck in my head for a week at a time... (Doesn't make life any easier, but when you're walking around, you sure feel like you're going somewhere with a purpose!)

Next time I shall harass people more, and emphasize for people only to sign up in the 1st place if they have the time. After all, people manage to produce something of similar length within a couple of weeks for the flash contest.

Of course, some of the people may sign up for both. Will there be a contest every month, or will I be able to pick a month that doesn't coincide to avoid conflicts of interest? Or can everyone write 2 stories in a month?

I guess I'm thinking of October, after everyone's read The Blind Collaborators.

Gareth
I don't know if there will be one every month. I depends on how people like them, if they get tired of them, or if more comments don't come in on the regular stories for the next few months. Right now, this contest is about twice as big as last time. If it continues to grow at that rate, it may become unmanageable. Or, next time, there may only be two or three entries.

I agree on the deadline. If you want it, get it by the date, or forget it. Otherwise, people will drag it out forever.

But yes, I'd wait until we all finally get to read it to decide if we like the universe. Me, I'm really into writing flash right now, so I'd probably volunteer to do one for you anyway, no matter if I had some for the challenges or not.
