Dan, do you have a really good surge suppressor or maybe even a UPS (no, not a courier company, an uninterruptible power supply)? Can't recall if wet hurricane weather involves a lot of electrical hoo-ha or 'just' wind and rain ...

For any who find their machines have shut themselves off and can't be restarted by pressing front panel power buttons (or whose machines WERE off, but can't be started using said front-panel power buttons after an electrical storm) ... find the rocker-type switch that is on your POWER SUPPLY. It will probably be near the socket that the power cord plugs into. Turn this switch to the OFF position, wait maybe ten seconds, then turn it back to the ON position. THEN push the front-panel power button again.

This has happened to me a couple of times here in hurricane-free Toronto (the can't- start- it- using- the- front- power- button problem), and forcing the power supply to reset has restored things to normal both times. (Thanks to a buddy of mine who has put working machines together out of spare parts for this suggestions, by the way.) If resetting the power switch on the power supply fails after a few attempts, THEN it may be time to worry that the problem is more serious (damaged power supply -- or worse, damage motherboard or processor or memory ...)

Robert M.
