It's me, Jim Rudnick the author of "Absolution" in the Aug issue....

And I just wanted to say 'thanks' I never knew that these forums existed -- and to come here and read my readers' feedback -- is an awesome thing for a new writer!

Congrats! This made my whole year!

And I'll work on a new one just for Aphelion!
I'd like to suggest a change in the guidelines page that spells out plainly and in big letters to new writers that there is a lettercol, and that they will get constructive feedback there on their stories. (I know I didn't find it until after I heard I was going to have a story published and then went poking around to see where all the links took me.)

Each month there are authors we don't hear from, and each month I wish I could have known what they were trying for in their stories, or if they agreed with our interpretations (or misinterpretations) of them.

If nothing else, we're bound to attract more contributing members to our little community.

What do you think?

Nate

I've got a few minutes before I have to go to bed. I'll go look up the guidelines page and see where a Lettercol link and notice can be fitted in.
Don't we still have a Lettercol link at the bottom of each story or poem's page?
Dan
The link is there on MOST, but not all, story/poem pages. Pointing out to authors that they should check the lettercol for comments is still a good idea; the other zines I have visited don't have nearly as much feedback on stories as Aphelion does. Certainly first-time Aphelion contributors will benefit from knowing where to look for bouquets, brickbats, bees fired from Martian sidearms, ...

Robert M.

Ah, Ray's finest work. In my opinion, of course. I think my favorite bit was the chapter titled "Usher 2" (or II, I forget which.)
Dan

Better than "Mars is Heaven" (which Star Trek: Voyager kinda ripped off for the crew's first encounter with a Caretaker)? Just think -- Ray Bradbury 'predicted' killer bees, sort of ...

Robert M.
