Aphelion

The death toll across five states (including Georgia) looks like it might exceed 200 (if it hasn't already). I hope no Aphelionites (or friends and relatives of same) have been injured or killed or have suffered serious property damage...

(The class "Aphelionite" includes authors, editors, publishers, readers, and commenters, but excludes spammers. A tornado (with pox, if possible) upon their server farms.)

Definitely, I agree with that sentiment. Hope everyone is well. We were missed by a tornado a few weeks ago by only 1 city block. Sobering stuff.

Damn straight. They're out of control around here. Does your level of access make it easier to nuke spams than mine? I just manually deleted 84 spams.

The storms across the South are terrible. I know what it's like to walke up, put your foot out of bed and realize that your leg is in water up to your knees!

I lived through the Johnstown Floor of '77, but it wasn't near as severe as the storms down South this week. We had rain, and the flood waters just rose up and up, and that morning it was sunny and nice outside. We had little wind and no tornadoes. And I had a chance to ride in a motorboat around my neighborhood until the waters receded.

Johnstown never really recovered after the floor. Our steelmills closed, our mines close, and the population decreased. Today we are just a shadow of what we once were. And most of it is due to the flood.

I can't express enough how sorry I am for what's happened down South.

Administrators have godlike powers, including banning usernames, e-mail addresses, and specific IP addresses. Of course, these days, you can set up a new AOL or Gmail or Yahoo mail or ... whatevermail account in seconds, so the banning doesn't really accomplish much. More importantly, administrators can delete a username AND all posts by that username in one command. I try to check for spam a few times a day, so you shouldn't bother with the manual deletes unless they stick around for a day or more. (It would be better to just PM me with any userids that generate more than a few obviously-junk posts instead of killing the damn things one post at a time.)

It's been terrible, for sure. It's all over the news; they pan a camera around and there's nothing but rubble as far as you can see. New records set for tornadoes across the board.

As to the spammers, I'd just love to catch them in person, haul them all down to where the damage is, hand 'em shovels, and say, "Here, make yourself useful for a change."

Or, for those with a need for more direct action, there are other ways to use a shovel when you have a spammer in your sights... People go missing when tornadoes pass through, and sometimes they're never found
