Should we be encouraged?

Now that classics like Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica are back on the air, is this the beginning of a SF revival?

Could this be the early signs that declining numbers of viewers and readers are about to come about?

I hope so, since the SF market is dismal if you're trying to break in. Every week on Ralan, you see more and more places shut down, or holding submissions. Print mags are by and large sticking with established authors. Six giant companies control almost all book production. (Baen is independent, but takes a year to get back to you.) It's depressing.

Please, please, let BSG & Doctor Who be the heralds of things to come!

Nate

FYI--Those half-dozen giant companies are: Harpercollins, Holtzbrinck, Penguin, Random House, Simon & Schuster, & Time Warner. Chances are one of them owns the company that publishes any book you like to read.
