Well, today's the day that my stuff (what I couldn't bring myself to throw out) makes the great leap of a couple of blocks and 7 floors to a new apartment. Gotta shut down the computer and get it ready to move, so I will be offline until Friday or so ... try to stay out of trouble! ;)

Robert M.

... pain in the ass, arms, shoulders, back, wallet. I ended up abandoning about 20 - 25 boxes of comics, books, and magazines (and clothes I haven't worn in maybe a decade) accumulated over the last 25 years because I ran out of time and energy. Spent many hours trying to prepare for the move of big items I couldn't handle myself, but couldn't prep well enough to move the aforesaid boxes on the 29th; then spent many hours (including about 22 hours straight, from about 9 AM Thursday until 7 AM today) chucking hundreds of pounds of stuff and packing and moving hundreds of pounds more. I blame my parents -- they (along with thousands of other Japanese Canadians) lost most of their possessions in 1941 - 1942, and this was AFTER living through the Depression, so they have also tended to keep things for decades ... not as MANY things as I have, mind you, and they are much neater about the ones they have kept!

On the plus side, this experience was a very effective way to lose weight quickly (not much time to eat, and constant physical activity). Too bad about the cuts, scrapes, bruises, strains ... and the smell (boy do I need a shower -- or two).

(The abandoned stuff will cost me $100 cleaning fee -- insult added to injury, since some of the comics were probably worth more than their cover prices, and there were A LOT of them. But I'm too tired to care much, and I have about 50 boxes of books, comics, DVDs, and VHS tapes that DID make it to the new place. (Sigh))

Robert "No, there are no dead animals in my T-shirt" M.

2222

i wouldn't leave all that stuff there...shame.

but yes, here's knowing exactly the nightmare you faced, it's torture every time.

can't you go back and pick up everything at a later date?

I would imagine it's gone by now. Plus I'm better off without it -- as it is, I have about 30 or 40 boxes of books and comics (I have been doing post-graduate studies at the Marvel Comics School of Literature for most of my life) here at the new place, and shelves and other non-box storage for only a fraction of their contents.

Right now, I'm just trying to get drapes on the windows, the assembly-required new furniture assembled, etc. Oh, and I suppose I should think about the MAY Aphelion (since the stuff I picked for March will now run in April).

Robert M.
