send in the investigators from Entity. i'd recommend liquid hydrogen, or whatever it was they used.
thank goodness you're all alright and that the damage wasn't too severe and sorry this happened at all. now what was that fan's problem anyway?
Lee
Liquid hydrogen + air + heat source (esp. open flames) = boom. (Not Recommended by Consumer Reports)
The fan's problem was the usual argument about whether Trekkers are really part of "Science Fiction Fandom" or just a bunch of geeks who like to dress up. He was escorted off the premises by a contingent of Dorsai Irregulars, who were in turn being pelted with sample-size boxes of All Bran by William Shatner.
Robert M.
P.S. "Entity" = movie featuring Barbara Hershey (I think) as a woman being molested by an invisible -- er, Entity?

Greetings, Programs!
Lyn and I are happy to announce that the re-construction work on Casa Vila is drawing to a close. The only thing left for the contractors to do is re-install the storm window that was removed to replace the office window frame...
Yaaaay!
The office sports a fresh coat of paint, a new window, and the new carpet was laid down yesterday evening. We'll have to do touch-up work on the paint, replace the ruined computer desk, and wait for some sunshine to dry the bookshelves that have been outdoors since the clean-up started. (We've had some lovely thunderstorms this week and everything outside got well-soaked.)
Apparently there were no tarps (or not enough tarps) available... ::)
I've still got firearms and edged weapons to clean before we re-hang the sword racks in the master bedroom.
Boy, Dan and Lin REALLY have to take that "Never go to bed angry" thing seriously. That, or Scotchgard everything and keep lots of bandages handy. ;D
We still have to take a couple of loads of clothes to the drycleaners. We still have twenty boxes of books to unpack and shelve in the office, but all the bookshelves in the rest of the house have been re-filled.
Not to mention replacing the fire extinguishers.
Of course, the contractors have all been paid by the insurance company, but Lyn & I have yet to receive a check for the personal property losses that we'll need to replace. I foresee several weeks of retail therapy and interior decorating left to us once that check comes in. Lyn has found and ordered some of the things that she wants to include in the redecorating. I've thought up a few little touches that should make it easier to re-hang curtains & blinds as well as to protect the new carpet from future stains that could be caused by the office furnishings.
We thank everyone for their concern and support during this trying time. With luck, Casa Vila will soon not only be back to normal, but even better than before. Thank you, each and every one of you, very much.
Vila
Once again, thanks be to TPTB (insert diety/ies of your choice) that Dan, Lin, and pooch escaped unscathed. Now join hands and pray that the insurance adjusters are not rectal orifices about providing adequate and timely funds for personal effects. (Of course, if they've SEEN the firearms and edged weapons, they will probably be more obliging than usual. :o)

Fire is not our friend. I learned that from watching Young Frankenstein (Gene Hackman / Peter Boyle cabin scene). :P In all seriousness, though, I'm glad no one was hurt, and I'm glad there wasn't further damage. I've been burned out of my home before; it sucks royally.
I think Buffy the Vampire Slayer put it best (after recovering from a devolution spell, asking Giles to keep his explanations simple):
Fire bad, tree pretty.

(Of course, if the tree is on fire, that complicates things considerably.)
