If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine had a Nissan Altima so new that he probably hadn't put gas in it more than once. Entered an intersection when the light turned green, and got hammered by a truck driven by someone who considers red lights to be guidelines (like the Pirate Code). He wasn't hurt, but the car will probably be written off. (This happened only days before they were due to depart on a two-week trip to Egypt (this past Tuesday). They had to leave before hearing what the insurance adjuster had decided.)

I hope your medical leave coverage is enough for more than just the mortgage and basic necessities... You'll need to keep yourself entertained while unable to do more than one-handed puttering around the house.

... I guess getting the Tri-Mag in running condition and rigging a cargo / passenger trailer would be tough with only one semi-good arm (a broken clavicle presumably precludes any strenuous activity with EITHER arm). No rental car coverage on the insurance, I gather. (Unfortunately, Nightbird Five is unavailable, and not FAA certified for carrying civilian passengers...)

Of course we're forgetting one thing -- Dan and Lyn can't hop in the car to go to the used book emporium or even the local Blockbuster equivalent until they HAVE a car. And when they get a car, they won't have $58 to spend on entertainment. :'(

(Since I've never been to Casa Vila, I don't know how far it is to shopping and entertainment facilities. I suspect that it's a little too far for walking (especially when the kudzu lies in wait for unsuspecting Two-Legs to come within reach)...)

Dan may be forced, forced I say, to open up the Steamer Trunk of Unfinished Stories and Novels and put in some serious writing / editing / rewriting time. Then Lyn can proofread and edit his edits. Hijinks and hilarity are sure to follow.

... If Dan can't sell his umbrella stands as umbrella stands, he could wrap them in wire to reinforce them, and turn them into anti-kudzu mortars. I figure a little napalm and willie pete is probably de rigeur for pushing that stuff back, so they'd be big sellers.
