I was wondering if anybody ever heard this quote: "A smart man once said we're probably all just the average of five people we hang around with the most, and I'd like to think that's true."
I read this quote in our local paper by Maj. Gen. Raymond Palumbo, a native from Winder, Pa. a small town close to Johnstsown. He just got promoted to Major General, and during his talk with our local newspaper he quoted that quote. I never heard that one before. It does sound like 'Birds of a feather flock together,' and that is the only other quote that comes to mind.
Has everyone ever heard the first quote at the top before by Gen. Palumbo?

Thanks, Bill. I'm sure that is where he got it! It's not too inane of a saying, but I have little faith in it's worth, unless your group is working on a project together, or you are all musician in a band.
When younger---in high school—I hung around with a rather motley group of characters. I’m going to muse over that saying for a couple of weeks, and see where it takes me.

Re: A Quote
I don't put any value in it.
It's quite easy for the five people you spend the most time with to be coworkers that you had no choice in being with. Will they influence you that much?
How about saying that the five people you choose to spend the most time with are a reflection of your personality?

I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?
Re: A Quote
Lester, you hit the nail on the head! I don't place much value on that saying.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that it all boils down to the person. Some people are influenced by others, so people influence other.
Some people....
Anyone could go on and on with what I started and it would almost sound like a non-repeating decimal.
If a well known and accredited writer, or inventor, or explorer, or reseacher in the medical field, or someone known for his/her expertise in a chosen field, gave a quote, then I might heed it more.
