Crap!
It feels like you just got here, John, and already you're on your way out . . . damn. Now I have to wonder if we're going to lose the cover illustrations and sample stories for the contest . . . what an unpleasant surprise.
And 'surprise' is probably the worst part, with no warning or hint.
Anyway, I'm going to miss your contributions to the 'zine. Best wishes for you on whatever's next in your life.

You'll have the dubious pleasure here soon. If you can't wait, go to the Aphelion page on Facebook. I'm also on LinkedIn.bottomdweller wrote:and John was the only one of us brave enough to show his face - even Lester Curtis is hidden behind a shotgun. Sorry you're leaving, certainly.
Oh, and--that's not a shotgun.

Re: Flash Editor
John is a friend of mine, one I was happy to hand the Flash department off to, safely knowing he would keep it going. He did a marvelous job, and I commend him for it. I didn't want him to leave, but he had his reasons, and I have to respect them.
But now we have to look to the future, and that future needs a new Flash Editor. Any person wanting to apply for the position, send me a PM, and I'll run it by the Editorial Board.
DO NOT post your intentions here in the forum.

Re: Flash Editor
Dan, don't feel badly about what you've done. You've given us all a gift with this site.
If other people disappoint you, that's their fault, not yours. I'm a lot like you in that; I've simply learned to adjust my expectations as needed.
As to your personal MO of staying out of sight, there've been times when I wondered why you didn't show yourself more often. I think it'd be refreshing to see you comment on a story now and again. I don't think you need to worry about influencing us too much.
We ain't dead yet. Let's keep doing what needs done.

Aphelion is a fanzine.
Fan zine. On the web. By fans, for fans. By writers, for writers.
It's not a business. It never had the ambition to be a business. And the day it does have that ambition, you'll find me in the bar, talking about the good old days over a glass of scotch.
In fact, that's where I'll be right now, if anyone could care to join me.
