Time-travelers as gods and heroes in ancient mythology . . . interesting.

The Warrior et al. were not just time travelers, or at least not human time travelers. My impression was that they were extra-dimensional entities who were explorers or maybe just tourists, able to wrap themselves in 'native costume' (including human-appearing bodies) to blend in. Hence they would not be concerned about changing history -- it was not, after all, THEIR history, and may not even have been "in the past" from their viewpoint. Think of the Achilles-body as a telepresence device of sorts, one that let its operator experience everything that the biological template (human body) would -- pain, pleasure, fear, joy... When the explorers / tourists had seen / experienced enough, they departed, and their disguises simply ceased to exist from the viewpoint of the natives.

David (Barber), did I get it right? Was that how you saw the story?
