Based on the old 'good things come in threes' principle (I think you've remarked on the 'bad things come in threes' tendency), this would be the time to buy a lot of lottery tickets ...

In the Alliance / Browncoats universe, used to be that the Reavers were the boogiemen. But now the boogiemen have something to fear (assuming that any of them were smart enough to turn tail and run for it). Jaimie and others who have seen the movie will know what I mean.

(We will now open discussion of the latest burning issue: could River beat Buffy?)

Robert M.Jaimie,
Just got DSL this week as well as Lyn LOL!

Let's see now ... Ewoks are agile, tough, and (mostly) adept with low-tech weapons. Jawas are sneaky and have high-tech weapons (blasters). Oompah Loompahs have that whole clone-army-acting-in-unison thing -- and do really creepy musical numbers.

Winners:
Round 1: Depends on the environment. In open desert or flat terrain, Jawas. In forest, Ewoks, 'cause blasters aren't much good against Really Large Logs Dropped from Above.

Round 2: Oompah Loompahs, as both the Jawas and Ewoks would be too freaked out to fight.

Then River would come in and beat the crap out of all three groups -- or possibly make pets out of them. (Mood swings. BIG mood swings.)

Robert M.River vs Buffy?
I'm still too busy working out who would win in a straight fight between the Jawas and the Ewoks...
... winner to face the Oompah Loompahs.

Re: Serenity (the movie)
Just got back from seeing it.

I can't really put in words yet how I feel about. Might have to ruminate on it for a spell. (I sound like I'm channelling Mal.)

I know that some of the bad things that happened to a few of her favorite characters upset my wife. Couldn't say it was really needed, myself. What did it achieve?

River was a bad-ass, but it begs the question, should she have been? One of her endearing traits was the occasional flash of brilliance or dangerousness as glimpsed through a sea of dysfunctional innocence. This wasn't like that. This was a different River--maybe good, maybe bad--but different.

Fans of the boxed set, did anyone else feel that the bad guy was awfully reminiscent of the bounty hunter, Jubal Early, who broke into Serenity to take River? This new fellow was his own character, but I saw his roots in Jubal.

Nate

... And why hasn't anybody remarked on the remarkable resemblance of Beaumonde (I think -- the planet where River was 'triggered' and wiped out a barful of assorted people) to the Los Angeles of 'Blade Runner'?

(Syd Mead, the futurist who did some of the design work for 'Blade Runner', was listed in the 'Serenity' credits -- under special effects. The design of the 'Mule', maybe?)

Robert M.
