Canadian Election and other political digressions
Well, it looks like the so-called Conservative Party (which is really the Reform / Alliance (of Reform with Reform) / Conservative Reform Alliance Party (a.k.a. CRAP -- for some reason they dropped that name pretty quickly) in traditional-party clothing) is headed for victory. They might even score a majority, which would be the equivalent of having Congress, the Senate, and the White House all controlled by one party -- and that's working really really well down in the U.S. of A.

In the event that the Conservatives do win a majority, I predict that Canadian troops will be out of Afghanistan in short order (how many Americans even knew they were there? A show of hands? Bueller? Bueller?) ... and into Iraq. The leader of the Conservatives favored Canadian participation in the Coalition of Britain, France, and the Peanut Gallery way back when, and I'm sure he'll be eager to make up lost time.

Heute Iraq -- morgen Iran? At least Iran has working nuclear reactors (or will have soon) and the possibility of a serious WMD development program ... but then Dubya seems less eager to invade countries that DO have or or about to have actual nukes (viz. especially North Korea).

(Singing) It's the end of the world as we know it,
And I feel fi-i-ine.
(aside from that there probably-dead computer)

Robert "Hard to dig a bomb shelter on the 10th floor" M.
