Re: Problems in posting?
... That's a new one. I've had the "too long" message show up a few times (to the point where I'd type things that I knew would be long into Notepad or make sure I CTRL-C copied the text before hitting POST). But I never had things just time out on me -- I suspect the server or some link in the Internet chain 'twixt you and the server was momentarily jammed. Sometimes you CAN do the same thing twice and get different results.

Doc? Am I right, or blowing smoke from orifices not usually noted for (visible) outgassing?

Robert M.

Re: Problems in posting?
If I remember correctly, Doc (AKA Rob Wynne) upped the limit. However, it now appears that YaBB itself may have some intrinsic limits that cause the program to misbehave if they are exceeded (going away and never completing the posting process?). Rob? Is this possible?

Robert M.

Re: Problems in posting?

I suspect that the problem is that those most likely to wrap themselves in the religious document of their choice tend to be hypocritical and very selective in how they apply the tenets of their faith. (viz. Pat Robertson, advocating assassination; Jim Bakker et al., caught violating the 'family values' they spout while squeezing money from their 'flocks'; Muslims declaring fatwas and 'holy wars' that contradict central edicts of the Qu'ran; Catholics and the Crusades, the Inquisition, tacit collaboration with the Nazis and cover-ups of sexual misconduct; Israel treating Palestinians as lesser beings with fewer (if any) rights ...). Religion has been used to justify wars, slavery, polygamy, rape, strip mining, the hunting to extinction of entire species, and ... a multitude of sins.

The term 'creation science' is a misnomer; creationism consists of an assertion that is intrinsically immune to any attempts to TEST in any meaningful way, and therefore is NOT science. Even the softest of sciences (sociology and psychology etc.) are subject to review, and evolve as theories rise and fall based on clinical and statistical evidence.

If God wants to take billions of years to accomplish something by setting the laws of physics and chemistry in place and then giving things a nudge, he/she can. It's not like he/she needs to hurry; insisting that the nth-generation revisions and translations of documents written by human hands must be literally true is an excellent example of hubris ('it HAD to happen in a way simple enough for me to understand').

Sorry if this strikes you as an unfair attack or mockery. Faith is fine in principle; as practiced by flawed human beings ... not so much.

Robert M.Why do so many people at Aphelion feel that it's okay to attack people of faith? Do you not consider this a form or prejudice? If someone thought the Big Bang theory stupid, would it be alright for them to attack Bangers as lackwits?
This is tantamount to the American preoccupation with debasing the French. It's looked at as a joke here, when, in truth, it is racism.
As artists -- as forward thinkiners when it comes to the future -- we should be very careful to avoid this "hey, it's okay 'cause we all agree" type of attack. It's rude and offensive.
When did the French become a separate race?

When I was given a French roommate in college, I distinctly got the impression that he and all his friends thought they were superior to every American they saw, but I must have missed the "new race" memo.

NateThis is tantamount to the American preoccupation with debasing the French.
