I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?

Here's an old favorite by Annie Lennox, "Walking on Broken Glass."
I often find myself just changing a few words, and in this one, it became, "Feels just like I'm walkin' round smokin' grass." Sometimes I actually was.

I came up with an alternate today; "Feels like I've fallen and broke my ass."

Songwriters: LENNOX, ANNIE

You were the sweetest thing that I ever knew
But I don't care for sugar honey if I can't have you
Since you've abandoned me
My whole life has crashed
Won't you pick the pieces up
Cause it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass

Walking on walking on broken glass (2x's)

The sun's still shining in big blue sky
But it don't mean nothing to me
Oh let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me
I'm living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I've got so little left to loose
That it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass

Walking on walking on broken glass (2x's)

And if you're trying to cut me down
You know that I might bleed
Cause if you're trying to cut me down
I know that you'll succeed
And if you want to hurt me
There's nothing left to fear
Cause if you want to hurt me
You're doing really well my dear

Now everyone of us was made to suffer
Everyone of us was made to weep
But we've been hurting one another
And now the pain has cut too deep
So take me from the wreckage
Save me from the blast
Lift me up and take me back
Don't let me keep on walking
I can't keep on walking on broken glass

Walking on walking on broken glass
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?

And of course, we can't forget "The Sound of Music" . . .

Ant-legs and fly-wings and whiskers from kittens
Heads of the insects by which I've been bitten
I have a drawer full of butterfly wings
These I removed from my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply dismember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?

Well, I was going to deny any involvement, but I can't think of anyone else to blame . . .

Actually, this is clever wording that stays with the theme throughout. I've done lots of song parodies over two decades for radio syndicated stations and consistency of theme is in all the best.

This is a good one!
Maybe, but it's incomplete. The original has three verses, and I could barely spare the wherewithal to make up a complete verse -- and I had half of it done already.

Go ahead and finish it if you like.
