Hi folks! I'm still snowed under with
house-buying/furniture-moving/utility-transfering stuff and can't
contribute much to new issues of Aphelion yet. Nevertheless, I have
been
reading each issue since entering that limbo known as "The 15 year
mortgage"- kicking and screaming all the way, you can rest assured!
Right off the bat I'd like to thank each member of the
Editorial Mafia
for jumping in and doing more than their fair share of work in keeping
Aphelion running. Jeff, Cary, Martin, Kim, and Rob have all been
busting
their collective butts to bring you the best fiction on the web while
I've been doing nothing more strenuous than signing papers, moving 1200
sq. ft. of belongings, and killing kudzu in my new back yard.
Sure, my name is at the top of the masthead.
Sure, I began Aphelion and ran it as a one-man operation for
the first
year and a half.
Sure, I wanted to bring you readers the best stories that the
internet
had to offer.
But guess what? I could have never pulled it off by myself.
Ever.
So here we all are at the January '99 issue of Aphelion and
about to
embark on our 3rd year of speculative fiction. Actually, I never
dreamed
that we'd come so far so fast. I couldn't have written
this wild
a story! Aphelion keeps climbing higher in the Top 100 Webpages list,
the stories keep getting better, the look of the zine keeps improving,
readers actually use the Lettercol, and sometimes
the writers
even get some fanmail! Sheesh! Some of the writers have even sold some
of their work! Now that's my idea of success for a webzine!
I suppose that the gist of what I'm saying is that my "little
webzine"
has grown into something great and that I owe it all to the staff and
yourselves, the readers. Thank you all for what you've done.
Now its time for me to shut up and let you get to reading.
But I want
you all to know that you've made me proud.
Dan
I'd like to thank those of you who have sent e-mails or signed the
Guestbook for your feedback. Keep those messages coming, folks! Without
those messages we will never know what we need to improve upon. Hope
you like the improvements so far!
